Informal Parents’ Evening, 9th March 2011

Are you the parent of a child born with a cleft?  Are you new to cleft treatment? Is your child starting a new phase of treatment?

If the answer to any of these is YES, please join us for ‘Parents Evening’, Wednesday, 9th March, in the Aisling Hotel.  We will be there from 7:30pm to about 10.00pm.  Drop in when you can.

Parents’ evenings are informal occasions that allow parents of children born with cleft to meet and share experiences. It can be encouraging for parents to meet with other parents who have children of the same age or a little older.  It is also good to share tips with parents who have younger children.  The evening is not geared for children as such, but newborns are more than welcome – we know that getting babysitters in the early days is not always possible.  We look forward to seeing you over a cup of tea!

All you have to do is turn up on the night!

Venue:
The Best Western Aisling Hotel is in Parkgate Street in Dublin.  It is on the Red Line Luas (Hueston stop) and is in view of Huestson station for mainline rail.  Parking is available in the hotel grounds at €2.00 per hour.  Drivers need to approach the hotel from Wolfe Tone Quay  – there is a left turn approximately 100 yards down the quay; it is for local access including the hotel. February 2011 Update

Hi and a belated Happy New Year! Just to keep you up to date, the committee met on the 18th January for its first 2011 meeting.  As usual, we had a full agenda.  This year promises to be as busy, if not busier, than last year.  We plan to continue with our series of informal parents evenings – the next meeting is on the 9th March in the Aisling Hotel. Our Annual General Meeting and Information Evening will be held in May, and our annual Family Day will be on the 18th http://www.ourhealthissues.com/product/cialis/ June.

This year the organisation celebrates 30 years.  We plan to mark the occasion with a musical fund raiser in the Autumn.  In addition to our organised events, we are planning to add to our leaflet series, collate another 300 maternity packs, complete a collaborative project with the medical profession and perhaps start another.  In the meantime we continue to work with maternity hospitals and team co-ordinators supporting new families.

There is more, but that’s enough for now!  We look forward to your ongoing support and to seeing you throughout the year.

Annual General Meeting and Information Evening

The Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Ireland is holding its Annual General Meeting and an Information Evening on Thursday, 15th April, 2010, at 8pm. Doors open from 7:15pm.

Venue: The Louis Fitzgerald Hotel (near Joel’s), Newland’s Cross, Naas Road, Dublin 22. (Location Map below).

The Information Evening theme is “SPEECH AND HEARING“.

Following our successful event last year, ‘Dental Care All the Way’, this year we are concentrating on Speech and Hearing. We will be looking at each area separately and where they overlap. We are delighted to have three excellent speakers for the event.

  • Nicole Prenderville, Senior Speech and Language Therapist, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital,  Crumlin.
  • Rob Wormald, Senior Ear Nose and Throat Registrar, Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street.
  • Julianne Gillen, Community Resource and Access Officer, DeafHear.ie

The information evening is aimed at parents, but will also be of interest to adults born with cleft or medical personnel working in this area.  Carers or close relations are also welcome.  While admission is free, we would appreciate an email, text or call in advance, so that we have an idea of likely numbers attending.

Urgently Required – New Committee Members

We urgently need two new committee members to cover for a vacancy and for new projects that we want to undertake.

The committee meets 10 times a year in the Bankers Club in Dublin 2.  Meetings last from 8:15pm to 10:30pm approximately.  We divide work to suit our respective talents and interests.  We always try to maintain a balance in keeping work manageable for volunteers and doing all the things we want to do to make life better for families.  If you can help in some way please phone 087 131 9803 or email info@cleft.ie
