The Association’s first ever Family Activity Day, held in Arklow, Co. Wicklow, on the 19th June 2004, has proved a great success. Ten families attended, including some twenty children and their parents. Children ranged in age from 1 to 16 years, and they participated in water-based activities, football and fun games. Parents were not slow to participate and everyone admitted to having a wonderful time. Canoes, kayaks, row boats, speed boats! And no one afraid to get their feet wet. The soccer game proved a forty-goal thriller! As for the ‘Royal Rumble’!
The children made new friends and went home delighted with the day’s activities and sad that the day had come to an end. The weather held up and this meant that all the activities took place outside in the sunshine. Laura’s face painting skills did not go unused! The barbecue later in the afternoon went down a treat and the grub at lunchtime was very timely following the morning’s exertions.
A special word of thanks must go to Jimmy and Majella and the Arklow Sea Scouts for providing the facilities and laying on the day’s activities. Also a special thanks to George for being the brains behind the event and organising the day and ensuring its wonderful success. An enormous amount of work went into making the day the success it proved. It must also be said that many hands made light work on the day. Finally, the biggest thanks must go to the children for participating so wholeheartedly in all the events, and their parents.
