Congratulations to our Cathaoirleach, Georgina Wade, for appearing in the Irish Times health supplement, HEALTHplus, today, Tuesday, 26 August. George was in conversation with journalist Fiona Tyrrell  for the column, On the Couch.
To the question “What do you regard as the top three problems facing Ireland’s health system?”, George replied:-
Making the patient the centre of the system, getting the vision for primary care implemented faster and finally combating bureaucratic inertia and bungling – next month, children will start school unable to talk properly because they have not had the speech language therapy they need, while this month we hear that students who have spent the last three years of their lives studying to become speech language therapists cannot get jobs.

Children and teens are this week either starting school, heading back to school, or moving to a new school after the summer break. For some this can be a trying time, for others an exciting time, and that is just the parents we are talking about! But it can also be that way for the children, and a range of emotions can be experienced by one and all, not just the child born with a cleft. So what words of wisdom can we share with you as you send your child off to school for the new term, maybe even their first?
 We are planning an AGM combined with Information talks for November this year – the AGM is usually held in a Dublin city centre location midweek (evening, c.8pm).

What a wonderful day in Lullymore Heritage & Discovery Park! Such a beautiful place! So much to see and do, and plenty of reasons to come back another day. And such a beautiful day weatherwise.
In the midst of the Bog of Allen, Lullymore is a treasure that gave great joy to the 80 children and 63 adults that attended our fourth annual family day. Families started arriving from 10.30am, from Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Monaghan, Kildare, to name just a few of the represented counties.

The Cleft Lip & Palate Association of Ireland is delighted to announce that its fourth Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday 14th June. The family day is for anybody that has been affected by cleft lip and / or palate and their families. It’s an opportunity to meet, swap stories and mostly have fun!

Time until the BIG EVENT:
This year we are planning to spend a day in the lovely Lullymore Heritage Park. Lullymore has something for everybody, walks, petting farm, outdoor play areas, crazy golf, indoor play, nature tours, afternoon entertainment and of course the Lullymore train. So pack a picnic or enjoy Lullymore’s café. We look forward to seeing you for another great family day…. hail or shine!

Our next main event is our Family Day this coming June (details imminent). This is our fourth annual Family Day, and after the success of our previous days out (see report on last summer’s), we aim to surpass even those! The financial mainstay of the organisation is due to take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd June 2008. It is of course the 2008 FLORA WOMEN’S MINI MARATHON. The Association is looking for participants to raise funds.

In the meantime we would like to let you know that participants must enter either on the official Entry Form which appears in the Evening Herald every Thursday and Saturday or online at www.florawomensminimarathon.ie by the closing date.
